AAUP Allies
Faculty Allies Looking Out for You
Who Needs an Ally?
Anyone can benefit from an informed, experienced outside perspective on work-related matters. Our allies can help faculty members navigate a number of issues they might face as employees of Ball State, including:
- SB 202/PL 113 Complaint Hearings
- Promotion and Tenure Reconsiderations
- Salary and Merit Reconsiderations
- and more…
Who Are Our Allies?
Allies are AAUP members who have familiarity with the BSU Faculty and Professional Personnel handbook, experience with disciplinary and complaint hearings, and training on how to navigate BSU procedures with the faculty or staff member’s best interests in mind. Allies are not union representatives who can negotiate on behalf of the employee. They are not employment lawyers who can offer legal advice, though they can direct you to legal resources when appropriate.
How Can Our Allies Help?
The primary mission of our allies is to meet with you before a hearing or meeting to help you prepare. If requested, they can accompany you to the meeting as a “faculty friend,” providing a second set of eyes and ears, and offering silent support. Finally, they can meet with you after the meeting or hearing to decompress, compare notes, and discuss next steps.
